The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) office has moved from the Office of the Provost to Washington University Libraries. Leaders say it’s a natural fit as GIS serves all faculty, students and staff.

In anticipation of the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) at WUSTL April 5-7, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service is offering funds for students, faculty and staff interested in creating programming and events related to the five CGI U focus areas. The grants may cover expenses such as rentals, marketing, supplies, refreshments and speaker honoraria.

Children with suspected appendicitis are more likely to receive CT scans — which involve radiation — if they are evaluated at a general hospital, a study shows. Similar patients who went to St. Louis Children’s Hospital were more often evaluated with an ultrasound scan, a safer option that uses sound waves instead of radiation.

Dancer Melinda Myers, praised for her “emphatic muscularity” by The Village Voice, will present an informal lecture/performance Wednesday, Jan. 30. Myers, a former member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company, will be on campus as the 2013 Marcus Residency Dance Artist in the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences.

Black Anthology presents “Metro,” a riveting, dramatic play examining the challenges of criminality and profiling in the life of a modern African-American. All aspects of production — from script writing to costume design — are student-run. The show is being presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2. Tickets now are on sale at the Edison Theatre Box Office.
The Danforth Campus will host local and national organizations on Wednesday, Jan. 30, for the Spring 2013 Internship & Job Career Fair. The fair will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. in the recreational gym of the Athletic Complex.
